I mean, I guess it's kinda disappointing that the ghosts had no follow-up... Still, they do appear early on! Are they less troublesome here, though? They merely show up at a low level so you can catch them...?

The Gastly is slightly different in Johto. That might mean that there are Gastly groups with opposed habits... It is disappointing, at the same time I guess you could use one. They do seem to make usually 'Normal-type' moves in Johto into moves which can hit ghosts randomly, though... So it might annoy you earlier on. Moves had less random damage increase, etc., in the first game. That was an improvement.

You could always catch a Rock-type instead, they can stall most that Gastly finds a problem. I'm sure that's also mentioned earlier on this forum.

A Rock-type is strong, however it used to seem stronger. Now with weird moves they can still seem really frail... I suppose they could stall these and try to prevent them.

Do you mean weakness moves, or moves which do alternate melee damage? Or something like Curse? Or is this off the mark

Alright, that does seem to lead to problems for Rock-types. A lot of Gyms which rely on weird types or weird typemove attack!

I mostly agree with FlyingMurkrow.
The Ghost-types in Johto seem to act differently from those we recall from Kanto. The Gastly instead seem to seek players out, appearing in early areas. They now have moves like Curse or Destiny Bond, which seem slightly poignant or interesting. They seem to hence tie the player to the opponent explicitly, which is interesting. They hence also seem 'atmospheric,' in some way.
The Ghost-types here seem to appear early, establishing a given kind of 'atmosphere' for the game. This is slightly different to the previous game, where they constructed their concentrated 'atmosphere' around their area. It could seem similar.
Their moves are slightly 'cynical.' 'Curse' is not only a rare '?' typed move, for Ghost-types it could lead to a form of 'sacrifice' to cause damage to the other. Hence, it could make a situation of generalised 'pain,' or each side experiencing pain in a connected way. There is something 'ritualistic' around it. The 'generalised pain environment' is not usually a move. However, 'Pokémon fights' are already something like that. So it is effective, if subliminal.
The Rock-types are potentially worth trying, certainly early on. Hence, they could seem to lead to resistance, in general fights. The early Geodude is interesting, it is slightly 'out of the way.' However, it could seem to lead to a secured or adapted team, certainly for the moment. This is useful, if you're uncertain of your other Pokémon choices.
Elsewhere, I'm considering adding a sort of 'encyclopedia' area with short descriptions of many ROM hacks. Are people interested in participating? You only have to post draft versions of entries, I'll post them with credit in a finalised format. Perhaps via Litten. We could also do something similar for other topics, if you'd like.

Me too!
Here is a question, that I am not sure where to put it. What is the connection of glitches with things like Pokegods? Along with the glitches, there was a sort of mythology of Pokémon gods. I'm also interested in some deeper views on the Pokėgods also codes for catching them.

I'm interested in this! I'll take part , if possible? I really like it so far...! As for all Pokémon are part of one evolution line, what if it has a special ability or move? That seems special, yes ?

I'm interested in this! I'll take part , if possible? I really like it so far...! I agree resoundingly! Yes, however if it's not supposed to have strong moves at first then that is a problem. Perhaps a Poison move, so they could stall out th fight? Hacks where you're in slightly tense positions are interesting...

Only checking, do you mean Kanto or Johto caves? Or only caves in general?

s.
Alright. This thread is interesting type.
As for hanging around near Lake of Rage? I guess the plot elements might obstruct it. So that's a problem. If you go up and use Surf a lot, then it's kind of interesting perhaps. Go up first, to escape the plot. It's still slightly crowded, so not really as peaceful as Ice Path or stuff. Still seems mazy while relaxing, though.
