Sturdy is the type of Ability that is usually just about more of a nuisance than sending out Growlithe and then menacingly growling at the opponent, of which Intimidate is the culmination.

Sturdy is good but your right you can't use it much! You should never use it! What is wrong wth you? You call Sturdy the best Ability???!

Some people are saying that Sturdy is the best Ability. That Magic Giard Magic Bounce is the best Ability. Is not.
I am here to tell you that Arena Trap with Will O Wisp is the best Ability! Tht much is clear now.
Immunity is good ablity! So is Color change! Even Marvel Scale is pwrful! These are the good Abilities that you should use.
I think tht many people are losing their ways.

DarthSpearow should write a book giving advice on everything.
Anyway, Arena Trap can be good with such moves, especially against physical attackers. Aerilate with Facade, etc., can also be promising. Even Pickpocket could be a useful Ability for a utility Pokémon. Damp would be powerful in Red/Blue, and Serene Grace by contrast in Gold/Silver.
S&M seem to be adding quite a few Abilities which risk unbalancing things. Hopefully it isn't too Ability-centric, but at least this suggests that it won't be too retro, if you mind such things. Abilities are sort of becoming invasive by this point, really.

I mean I like Abilities, and theres a good list here, but along with Z-Moves and everything couldn't it get too much and too disconnected? A lot of ROM Hacks just try cramming this sortt of thing in and I kinda hate that.

That's probably valid, it prevents battles from being as focussed and having the same unified pathos they used to be known for. Pokémon's strength was generally its ability to be sparse and atmospheric, not a shiny, childish form of the already-childish recent Final Fantasy games. It's sort of reminiscent of this:
Anyway, it might be amusing to speculate about what they'll add next. Perhaps they could reprise the Buried Alive glitch rumours and have moves that only activate when the trainer is dead? Those would really change the meta-game, and add many further considerations.

LOL nice comparison.
It can get a bit much, especially since the Pokémon have different formss and stuff as well.

It is lots of things lol.
No wonder they had to go to space to fit it all in.

Alola is something of a mess in that regards, yeah. The general location is a relaxing anniversary-related beach area, then they just throw in Final Fantasy dramatics in a way which confuses the atmosphere. It comes across as comical more than anything.
That said, realistically the Pokémon games are just problem-solving. The player runs into a 'problem,' then gets it out of the way. It doesn't really have a 'plot' as such. It often compensates with 'noise,' if you like, but games like R/B where the Team Rocket events blend in to the dark atmosphere and the locations encountered are probably more effective. Pokémon is a bunch of fairly simple aspects, the atmosphere should be integrated into these and not require intrusion and dramatics elsewhere. Still, this does mean that Pokémon games can easily become cluttered with 'noise' in the form of things like 'Ultra-Beasts,' 'Mega-Evolutions,' Pokémon from space, etc.
