Name: Pokémon: CODE RED Authors: By Luminesce and DarkRattata. The idea was by DarkRattata. Most of the dialogue was edited by Luminesce. Description: A hack of Fire Red. An attempt to simplify the games, and portray them in terms of their basic elements. It attempts to return to Red and Blue, and represent the Pokémon there as, "like pieces of code." This means that instead of treating them as general creatures, they are treated as for instance 'the Pokémon who uses Fire type moves of increasing damage,' and so on. Therefore, Pokémon are given moves, and so on, based on a code representing their predominant use in the game. Hence, this allows for an easier observation of the Pokémon and players' reaction to them, as well as for understanding how players react to different builds and so on. It is therefore useful to ROM Hackers as well as players. The dialogue and areas have also been altered in order to represent this simplification. Plot: *TBA* Screenshots:Completion: Most of the main game (significant trainers, events and Gyms) is completed up to Mt. Moon. We've gone slightly further than the first demo. Downloads:First demo: www.mediafire.com/?kpn085k18nb6zioDetails: Goes up to Mt. Moon. Some events - like those involving Daisy - not updated up to there, but it should be sufficient to experience the newer aspects of the game and for members here to familiarise themselves with them. Some areas, like Viridian Forest, will be altered further in later versions, to keep them interesting. We will try to alter elements in the earlier game over time, to keep it interesting for players who have played through earlier demos. A couple of things stand out, so be warned that these will change in future versions. Try not to talk to the Team Rocket guy in the bottom-left corner of Viridian City yet, or at least try not to agree, at present they'll just turn your screen black while letting you wander around. That aspect will be added later. In addition, Pewter Gym will be altered in future versions, but for now we'll just let you run in there and mess around with your altered, strange Pokémon. Additional Notes: If the first rival battle causes you problems, then you might want to pick up a Potion before that. Pick Charmander if it continues being a problem, as this can make it easier. The balancing aspect here is that Charmander might make it more difficult in the next Gym. In future versions, the opponent's Pokémon will be altered so that even with Charmander there will be a significant threat - although there is already.

Thanks!
Hope you enjoy CODE RED!
Hope you don't get any bugs, apart from the Rocket one which I put in by accident so we added special effects to cover it up. Thats already been pointed out.
Enjoy it anyway! Read the OP if you need help with the starters!

Thanks on the dialogue.
The Rattata has Secret Power in part because DarkRattata was insistent on giving Rattata OP moves, in part in reference to their reputation around FEAR tactics.
How was the rival battle, which others seem to have trouble with?

So where do you think this sort of project shld go from here? How could the coded Pokémon get more mechanical?
Interested in starting a Hack based on this, as well!
The Rattatta is scary.

So where do you think this sort of project shld go from here? How could the coded Pokémon get more mechanical? I'm sure there are many uses you could get from Pokémon specified this way, for instance in terms of organising your game. In more general terms, the idea is probably to treat different Pokémon as different functions, or something akin to the automatons and such in chess, for playing the game. This would allow for far more variety to be viable. Each Pokémon would hence become an approach to the battle. The automaton comparison is apt, as humans try to avoid getting directly involved in Pokémon battles, usually as a part of the rules, but instead fight it via the Pokémon. When trainers get in the middle, it can go badly for them. Hence, rather than direct involvement per se, trainers interact with the battle via Pokémon. Pokémon are hence faced as different - and differently functioning - means of generating the content of Pokémon battles. To go further with this approach, one would presumably not just use this ROM's form of organising Pokémon, but configure them as different means of interacting with the battle format, which can then face each other. This has several results. Firstly, type, which is in any case a simplification, can be minimised in effect or eliminated. Other series have things like classes, guilds, etc., which are more notable. Secondly, and related to this, Pokémon would have to be directly comparable, in terms of, 'in this scenario, this is attempting this, and the other would deal with it differently. In general, moves are only artificially mediated by type, which reduces them to overly similar things. Hence, we would first need an even field or common task and situation. This Hack does not get to that point, but still has an affinity to it. In any case, what would remain from there is to give this an apt environment, and possibly specialised areas involving different styles or strange Pokémon. At that point the game would be re-playable, etc., and hence be highly effective.
