Go ahead.
You arrive at the lab and see Professor Quercus. Everyone else here has lab coats, including some aides and travelling professors, and you might feel slightly awkward.
This might influence your choice.
Professor Quercus turns to address you.
QUERCUS: Greetings, CRABE! So why are you here? Oh, you want a Pokémon? I thought it was only YELLOW here! Oh well, I have three of them, choose one first.
QUERCUS: Do you want the FIRE-type, OTTFER? Perhaps the more exotic WATER-starter, STRAGON, is more up your street. Or you could choose the ever-popular MUDKROK. These are all rare, and STRAGON came from quite far away, so be careful with your choice.
You may choose any of the Pokémon, or ask Quercus for more details about one of them.
(Please specify your player character's name, by the way. This can be up to 9 letters. Also your rival. Also your rival. Then I'll edit this post to add that in.)
(Edit: Details added.)

Can I join in? I'll also go to the lab for a Pokémon.
Can my name be GOLDPLUF?
Here's a place:
Name: Route 1. Layout: A long winding path, which takes a sharp left turn because of some bushes and then has to wind around a few trees. Wild Pokémon grass on the outside. The player has often seen it on their way around. Description: The first route! Not that difficult to cross, but many trainerss prefer to catch some Pokémon here. They can be dangerous! Location: It's near the starter town.

Sure, WC! Just specify a character and rival name, and whether you'd prefer to speak to the Prof. or rival.
Anyway, GoldPiplup, you might want to specify a rival name. I'll edit that into this post.
In addition, the thread has been updated to include recent additions. In addition, if you look at Goldpluf's trainer profile, there are three additional fields. These are: battle tactics, type preference and day/night. No need to worry about these yet - I'll fill them in as your journey progresses. They will be based on observing your battles and so on. They will allow entrance to certain areas, or influence which Pokémon you get. Finally, the day/night preference is whether you prefer to train in light or darker areas. As Cantile Town is a light area, this defaults to 'Day' for most trainers. It can change as you go further on your journey.

GoldPiplup's Run:
You arrive at the lab and see Professor Quercus. Everyone else here has lab coats, including some aides and travelling professors. You arrive at a desk with a Forumdex and a few CAPTCHA images on it, where some of these people are speaking.
Professor Quercus turns to address you.
QUERCUS: Greetings, GOLDPLUF! So why are you here? Oh, you want a Forumon? I thought it was only [RIVAL] here! Oh well, I have three of them, choose one first.
QUERCUS: Do you want the FIRE-type, OTTFER? Perhaps the more exotic WATER-starter, STRAGON, is more up your street. Or you could choose the ever-popular MUDKROK. People really seem to like them. These are all rare, and STRAGON came from quite far away. Careful with your choice.
You may choose one of the Forumon, or ask Quercus for further description of one of them.

CRABE chooses Stragon. They seem special!! Also it's Watertype.
They'd be excited about the journey...

Thank you.
You select the level 5 Stragon. It seems that PRH's Water-types are still intent on monopolising the forum. Yet Litten's calm and just ways shall no doubt restore the balance of the forum. Quercus responds to your choice.
QUERCUS: Very well! Here's your starter, the Water-type STRAGON! It's not always used to these parts, so be careful! However, it is a ferocious attacker.
YELLOW: Yeah? Well, I'd like to take my choice now.
QUERCUS: Be patient, YELLOW!
YELLOW: I have been patient! Waiting on CRABE is degrading. Now reward me for my virtue.
QUERCUS: Fine. You'll get your Forumon soon. First, CRABE, would you like to nick-name your STRAGON?

Rival battle incoming? I'll nick-name my STRAGON - SAIYAN.
Also here's some additional things!
Name: Delayed Effect: Can use all moves which were used on the last pagee. Uses in battle: Maybe OP? Maybe if they didn't get many other moves?
Name: Weather Centre. Layout: A main entrance hall, and a few other rooms which are mostly barred off. One room to the left can be entered for a room with info on Pokémon and weather. One room to the right can be entered for quests or something. Maybe an evil team is involved? Description: A place based around weather patterns, can be used for information or to look around. You might get a special weather-based Pokémon! Location: Not yet?

GoldPiplup's run:
You ask about MUDKROK.
QUERCUS: Ah, MUDKROK is a fierce creature. Be careful with them! They are a Grass-type, and can be difficult for opponents to notice in swampy terrain or tall grass. At least they aren't a dragon. Choose wisely.
-
CRABE's run:
Your Pokémon is nick-named SAIYAN!
QUERCUS: A super name. Now, YELLOW, which do you choose?
YELLOW: I'll take this one. I don't know why, I just like it.
YELLOW takes MUDKROK.
QUERCUS: Would you like to nick-name that?
YELLOW: Nah, nick-names are for sissies like CRABE. I'm good.
QUERCUS: CRABE and YELLOW, I would recommend taking the FORUMON LEAGUE CHALLENGE. You will want to pass through Route 1, facing wild Forumon and trainers, to get the feel of a Forumon journey. Good luck!
You can walk up to ROUTE 1, or talk to a townsperson nearby. Which would you rather do?
(This is now standard dialogue, but it can be changed slightly when further cities are specified.)
-
Finally, let's add some moves for your Forumon. At this stage, Stragon has an 'HP' of 5 posts, Ottfer of 6 and Mudkrok of 4. If you use an attack, then it will increase your HP by a certain number of posts, and decrease your opponent's as well. If your HP reaches a certain point, you win. This will be specified before the Pokémon battle.
Name: Scratch. Type: Normal. Effect: The creature scrapes its opponent. You say that you agree with the opponent, then say that they were wrong. For example, 'I agree that Pikachu is great, it's a useless furball that should be declared illegal.'
Name: Flog. Type: Normal. Effect: The poster posts 'lol,' along with an emoticon. The emoticon is supposed to make this 'lol' seem demeaning. If it comes across as rather mean, we will allow them an extra post to explain the intricacies of its rudeness and the art behind it. This will gain them an extra post.
We might change the 'Normal' type to something else more forum-specific at some point. At this point we'll have to wait briefly. Check the 'dex' post for further details on your Forumon and its moves.
Edit: When it comes to your Delayed Ability, you're correct that it should mostly be reserved for Forumon with few other moves. Otherwise it could get out of hand. They should appear at slightly higher levels.

Yep.
As you excitedly walk down the path, you notice a few people up ahead. One is a trainer, it seems.
A wild Pokémon attacks. It attacks suddenly, so it takes a moment before you see it. You remember a description of this Pokémon.
-
Name: Intenax. Type: Normal. Ability: Popular. Sample moves: Scratch. Description: A small creature that tends to try and ambush trainers as they enter an area. Fiercely territorial. Have black-brown fur, four legs, and claws that can sharpen. Based on: Stoat.
Name: Popular. Effect: If the Pokémon uses an attack three times in a row or more, its damage goes up by half of its base damage (rounded up.) (Hence, a move doing 3 damage would start to attack with 5 damage.) Uses in battle: Sweeping, or useful for early creatures with fewer moves.
-
It's a wild Intenax! Pesky creatures, these.
You send out your Pokémon!
Since you might not be used to battle here, this is how it works. Both sides have a target of 10.
A level 3 Intenax has a HP of 3.
Each attack represents a certain amount of posts. You subtract posts from your opponent's 'HP,' and add posts to your own. The opponent can then subtract from your HP, and add to theirs. If your attack does 2 damage and your opponent's 1, your 'HP' will increase by 1 and theirs decrease by 1. In 'unofficial' (non-league) battles of a certain format, Pokémon will lose when their HP goes to 0. These 'gauntlet matches' are popular around Cantile Town. It is rumoured that trainers elsewhere have battles which involve negative HP numbers, which can involve injury to the Pokémon. However, these have not been found yet.
In League matches, even Pokémon with zero HP must continue to be attacked until you reach a given target - or unless they remain on 0 HP for 7 turns (calculated at the end of turns), at which point they are declared fainted and not likely to recover. It is rumoured that this ability to attack injured Pokémon has at times led to injury, but the League keeps quiet about this. Still, you might want to be careful with keeping your Pokémon out there for too long.
If the target is 10, you will win once your HP reaches 10.
Some moves may give you the opportunity to add posts to your HP, without subtracting any from your opponent. We can call this 'recovery.'
The Intenax is faster, and uses Scratch.
I agree that you should fight Yellow, Yellow is much stronger than you and you should cower in fear back in Cantile Town.
-
Hence, this has a base power of 1. To this we add level divided by two, and rounded down. Hence, 3/2 = 1.5, we round down to get 1. Hence, they do two damage.
Your HP hence goes down by two, to 3. Theirs increases by two, to 5. Good luck, CRABE!
Respond in kind with Flog, to see how a basic damaging move works. After that, we can reveal your other move. Intenax only knows Scratch.

You select the level 5 Grass-type, MUDKROK.
QUERCUS: Very well! Here's your starter, the Grass-type MUDKROK! It can get touchy, but it is a fierce creature.
DAIMON: Yeah? Well, I'd like to take my choice now.
QUERCUS: Be patient, DAIMON!
DAIMON: I have been patient! Waiting on GOLDPLUF is degrading. Now reward me for my virtue.
QUERCUS: Fine. You'll get your Pokémon soon. First, GOLDPLUF, would you like to nick-name your MUDKROK?
Your Pokémon is nick-named ILIND!
QUERCUS: A super name. Now, DAIMON, which do you choose?
DAIMON: I'll take this one. I don't know why, I just like it.
DAIMON takes OTTFER.
QUERCUS: Would you like to nick-name that?
YELLOW: Nah, nick-names are for sissies like GOLDPLUF. I'm good.
QUERCUS: GOLDPLUF and DAIMON, I would recommend taking the FORUMON LEAGUE CHALLENGE. You will want to pass through Route 1, facing wild Pokémon and trainers, to get the feel of a Pokémon journey. Good luck!
You can walk up to ROUTE 1, or talk to a townsperson nearby. Which would you rather do?
-
Some extra moves:
Name: Band-Edge. Type: Grass. Effect: You accuse your opponent of being mean to you, and say you'll tell the Admins. Heals three HP per turn, for three turns. Hence, increases your HP without decreasing the opponent's. You can continue to attack on the next two turns, while the healing continues.
Name: Jaws. Type: Poison. Effect: You try to type out the sound of the Jaws theme. Feel free to use emoticons or capitalization to represent the sound. Deals damage.
Mudkrok can learn Jaws later on.
